BROOKLYN W.C.T.U.
Helping Youth Movement
The Brooklyn branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union met recently in the Methodist Hall, when the president, Mrs. A. B. Reed, welcomed Mrs. Perymau, Dominion officer, Sirs. Pragnell, a foundation member, cradle roll mothers, and others who attended for the first time. There were more than 40 present. Mrs. Pickering’s report on a youth movement meeting was very encouraging.
Mrs. Gillings stated that a practical way in w’hich to assist the young people’s work was to collect used stamps and forward them to Miss Appleby, and also to save old Christmas cards, as the Rawabai-Mukti Mission Sunday school in India made good use of them. Further donations were collected by Mrs. Pearce for the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund, and handed to the treasurer. Mrs. Reed was appointed supervisee for the annual scientific temperance examinations, and representative to the district executive, Mesdames Jordan, Dudley and Gillings to assist as hostesses. An induction service was conducted by Mrs. Peryman, Mesdames Stewart, Sangster and Sinclair being received into membership. A resolution about wet canteens in territorial camps was moved by Mrs. Gillings, and sent as a remit to the district executive; a copy is also to be forwarded to the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, and Mrs. Stewart, M.P. for the district. The guest speaker was Mrs. Peryman, who gave a forceful address, appealing for greater energy to be devoted to temperance education and other important aspects of work.
