ALIEN FINED £5

Failure To Notify Change

Of Address

An alien, Ferdinand Rosenthal, engineer, who failed to notify the authorities within seven days of changing his address, was charged under the Alien Control Regulations in the Magistrates' Court, Wellington, yesterday, and fined £5 by Mr. Stout, S.M. Defendant pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector G. H. Lambert told the Court that defendant had lived on The Terrace, Wellington, but did not notify the alien ollicer when he moved to Karori. Air. J. Meltzer said the case should not be considered as serious. Defendant was a Hungarian anil not an enemy alien. He had a very poor knowledge of English ami was quite unaware that be was required to notify any change of address. There was nothing sinister about the case and the offence was committed through defendant being ignorant, of the regulations. It was very necessary that these regulations should be enforced and aliens should make it their business to find out what their obligations were, said the magistrate.
