OBITUARY
Lady Norah Duigan
Tlie death occurred yesterday of Lady Norah Duigan. wife of MajorGeneral Sir John Duigan, General Officer Commanding the military forces in New Zealand, says a “Dominion’ Special Service message from Wanganui. Lady Duigan had been an invalid for several years. She leaves three sons, Captain J. Duigan, who is abroad on active service, Lieutenant C. Duigan, Auckland, and Pilot Officer Bryan Duigan, who is in England in the Royal Air Force. Lady Duigan is survived by three sisters, Mrs. lan Teddltch (Wanganui), Mrs. A. E. Forest (Auckland), and Mrs". G. Pinchbeck (Gloucestershire).
Mr. J. C. Main
One of the older generation of Hawke's Bay farmers, Mr. John Calder Main, has died in Waipukurau at the age of 8-1, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. Mr. Main was born in Cumniock, Ayrshire, Scotland, and left home to come to New Zealand in his early twenties. He worked in his uncle’s carrying business and for Hayward’s, also carriers, in Christchurch, for a number of years, then spent some time in Ashburton. His first position in Hawke's Bay was on Riverslea station, then owned by Mr. Thomas Tanner." Mr. Main had charge of the horses till the station was cut up for selection, when he bought part of it and farmed it successfully for some years. In 1900 he disposed of his Riverslea property and bought part of Mt. Herbert, where he had lived since. Mr. Main was married to Miss Jane Combie in 1889, and she died 35 years ago. He is survived by a son and a daughter, who live in Waipukurau. In his younger days Mr. Main took an active interest in sport, and latterly his chief recreative interests were ploughing matches and rille shooting.
Mr. J. E. Ramsey
The death occurred at his residence “Matafele,” Seatoun, on Thursday, of a prominent citizen of Wellington, Mr. John Edmund Ramsey. For many vears he was a director of W. D. and H. 0. Wills, Ltd., and in recent years a director of J. R. McKenzie, Ltd., Bryant and May, Ltd., Frozen Products, Ltd., and Fountain Court, Ltd. Born at Auckland 59 years ago, Mr. Ramsey was educated at Auckland Grammar School, and for the last 40 years he was a member of the firm of W. D. and JI. 0. Wills, Ltd., and its predecessors, for 20 years of which he was a director till his retirement in 1938. Mr. Ramsey came to Wellington about 30 years ago, and had many interests here. He was a member of the Rotary Club, of Lodge Aorangi, chairman of the board of trustees of St. George Church. Seatoun, a member of the council of the Acclimatization Society, and a pastpresident and member of the Seatoun R.S.A. He was one of the fast-dimin-ishing band of South African War veterans. Mr. Ramsey was a keen fisherman, and yachtsman. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
Mr. James Jeffries
The death occurred in a private hospital yesterday after a brief illness of Mr. James Jeffries. Nikau Avenue, Lower Hutt. Mr. Jeffries was born in Charleston, West Coast, and was the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Jeffries, Majoribanks Street. He spent his early boyhood in Picton and Nelson and later served his time to the engineering trade in Nelson. After completing his apprenticeship, he went to sea in the s.s. Tasman, and for some years traded on the New Zealand and Australian coasts in various ships of the Union Co., Huddart, Parker and Maoriland Shipping Co. For several years he has occupied a shore position. He was widely known among many friends who will regret, his death at a comparatively early age. He leaves a widow and three brothers', Messrs. Arthur, Ken and Frank Jeffries, and two sisters. Mrs. M. Torbit, Wellington, and Mrs. C. van Houtte, Raglan.
