GROWING OLD GRACEFULLY

“The Evening Crowns the Day,” by Lilian M. Faithfull (London; Chatto and Windus).

Growing old gracefully is an art which is acquired. At least that is the tried and considered opinion of Miss Fartthfull, a school teacher who found in her retirement that there were many woods and pastures new open to her. She became a magistrate, actively associated herself with the housing problem In England and went on a lecture tour of Canada. In her lively and humorous account of her work, her general attitude toward life is clearly visible. She neither succumbs to advancing age nor trades on it, but cheerfully adjusts herself to meet its limitations. Age creeps upon us all, and it is an encouragement to read Miss Faithfull’s book; even to the very young it could be an inspiration, for it does not preach, but teaches by practical example, the discoveries of a lifetime.
