Wage Qualification Rise Suggested

The introduction' of legislation to raise the family allowance wage qualification by 5 per cent., the amount of the increase in wages awarded by the Court of Arbitration, was suggested by Mr. Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lynn) in giving notice of a question to the Minister of Finance, Mr. Nash. Mr. Lee said the wage increase, without subsequent amendment of the law, would have the effect of excluding a large number of families from receipt of family allowances, the total amount of wages in cash but not in purchasing power being the qualification.
