The Controller of the ExportImport Bank, Mr. Jesse Jones, announced that plant expansion loans totalling 78,500,000 dollars had been granted to the Boeing, Bendix and Curtiss-Wright companies in a move to break the bottleneck impeding the production of military planes. The State Department announced that in July military planes valued at 948,000 dollars were shipped to Britain and planes valued at 1.227,000 to Canada. Canada also bought 2,583,000 dollars worth of aircraft engines. NEW YORK, August 21. The Co-ordinator of Defence Production, Mr. IV. S. Knudsen, said tit Eos Angeles that the aircraft industry was co-operating 100 per cent, in the defence programme, but. that the stool die industry was lagging. Five of the largest aircraft companies issued a joint statement in Washington that aircraft manufacturers have offered and will continue to give the Government every resource and facility at their command in the interest of national defence. They are ready to build aeroplanes first and discuss profits afterward. 'fhe statement added that the industry had recently spent over 100,000.000 dollarson materials for future use and had contracted for over 5,000,000 dollars' worth of additional plant facilities and taken on 21,000 more eraployees.
