Wellington Club’s Activities

At the weekly meeting of the M ellin,ton Esperanto Club, the president. Mu V J Leek, welcomed visitors from Miramar and Masterton. He said he was always pleased to receive these visitors, as it'helped to co-operate and combine the work of the clubs and also enabled the clubs to find out what each was doing. Some of the visitors took part tor the first time in a “Che”, course, and expressed themselves as highly satisfied ot the benefit' to be gained by taking pan in flic course t’ven to experienced Lsperantists. New members were enrolled, which necessitated the forming of a new class. After supper a table tennis competition was held. Mr. L. Jowers and Mr. F. Miles were winner and runnerup respectively in the men’s section . Airs. Cooper and Miss J- Rogerson the winner and runner-up iu the nomens section. International Understanding. Many organizations and individuals today were talking of a better social order, and the reconstruction of a sound international relationship after the war, said Mr. L. Jowers, secretary of the Wellington Esperanto Club, when visiting the Karori society on Wednesday. But so few were willing to sacrifice even a little time and effort to prepare, for these eventual conditions. The first step toward international understanding was an international language, mid Esperanto offered :i tangible answer to the prayers of the millions of people on both sides, who were hoping and praying for peace. At least, it. was a proved ami practical step and not mere theory, lie added.
