(Continued from Page 13). TE RAPA TRACKS

Young Paddon Pleases

Dominion Special. Servici

HAMILTON. August 22

A. solid six furlongs by Young Paddon and a dashing display over a section of the steeplechase country by Dark Rose were features of this morning's programme at Te Rapa, when the going on the course proper. 33 feet, out from the rails, was dead. Midland also pleased in a round of hurdles.

The Nightly three-year-old in the Seifert stable was doing better than Kallatopea (Meynell) in a three-furlong dash, which occupied 38j—a useful effort. Both executed their work pleasingly, and tire making good progress. Beau Repttire (Hall) ami Marshall Hall (Bartles') were associated in an easy seven furlongs, which they traversed in 1.44. Both these members of. the Julian string are bearing a healthy appearance. ami should be in splendid order when called upon to race. Olympus (Ramsay), who tippears to be the most forward of the Julian stable, negotiated an easy six furlongs, being timed to negotiate his first half-mile in 58. He will probably do his next racing at Avondale.

Young Paddon (C. Melnally) hit out alone over six furlongs in 1.22 3-5. He rati his first three furlongs in 371, the half-mile iu 53 4-5, and five furlongs in 1.8. Altogether it was a pleasing effort on the part of Young'Paddon, who should be in excellent fettle for his Jeliicoe Handicap engagement on Saturday. He has gone on the right way since winning so convincingly at Rotorua several weeks ago.

Acute (Gollop) was clear of Sporting Ace (Howard) and a filly by The Ace in the Tutchen stable, over three furlongs in 384 —a useful effort, for horses of their class. >

African (0. Melnally) got to the end of five furlongs in 1.12, his first half-mile being traversed in 57. He is coming to hand nicely. The three-year-old Cape Egmont and a two-year-old by Vaals, required 69 for half a mile. Black Musk.

Black Musk (Muir), who is looking a picture of condition, was restricted to strong three-quarter pace- work, running once round iu 2.20 3-5. It will not be on the score of condition if he fails to show up in the Jeliicoe Handicap. .Raceline (Meynell) finished clear of Tooley Street (McGregor) over the deciding stages of a round in 2.12. Both did their work pleasingly, and Tooley Street, who has been working consistently well of late, drew attention to his prospects at the Pakuranga Hunt this week. Gaine’s Choice (Winder) was doing better than Calsbot (Long) and Requiem (Hain) at the conclusion of a round in 2.14. Both Gaine’s Choice and Calshot should show to advantage in the Ladies’ Bracelet on Saturday. Sieglinde (Brown) was a length in front of Gay Rosette (O. Melnally) over the deciding stages of five furlongs in 1.9 1-5. Sieglinde did her work well, and is not without'prospects in the first Division of the Sylvia Park Handicap on Saturday. Abbey King (Brown) got to the end of six furlongs in 1.26. He is bearing a healthy appearance. Among those to be allotted strong work were Cappy, Etcetera, and Forest Acre.

Dark Rose (Gottlsbro) was schooled over three fences of the steeplechase course, the sod wall by the half-mile, the brush by the three furlongs, and the sod wall entering the straight, and executed his work in dashing style. Dark Rose has been out with the Waikato Hunt on several occasions lately, and the progress- he has made since winning at Matamata entitles him to consideration in the Hack and Hunters’ Hurdles on Saturday. Midland (Curran) was schooled over four flights of hurdles, and accomplished his work pleasingly. He is in good order for his Pakuranga engagement. Sunny Downs (Curran) was schooled oyer the pony fences along the back, but his display was not. impressive. ' Riding engagements:—A. Gilmer, Kinkle, Tutor; O. Melnally, Young Paddon, Gay Rosette, Etcetera.. Rival; H. Long, Hunter’s Night, Valiineen, My General. hawera tracks Royal Star II Goes Well Dominion Special Service. HAWERA, August 22. Conditions were ideal for training operations at Hawera this morning, when some good times were recorded on the course proper, with the trestles out only a few feet. Notiuni (Holland) got to the end of half a mile smartly in 51 3-5. He is working with much of his former brilliance and a course of schooling seems to have made him more solid.

Itoyul Star II (Sexton) worked boldly over a round, sprinting an easy three along the back in 43. He has built up a lot since Trentham, and is right at his best. After a race at New Plymouth next week, he will go to Awapuni for the Wanganui fixture.

Gitana Lass, who is showing signs of improvement, held the measure of War Lap at the close of half a mile in 541. Silver Gift ran the same distance in 53 4-5.

Barry Boy (Mills) shaded lied Myosotis (Cole) over three furlongs in 39. The latter does not appear to have improved much since last season. Marlene traversed half a mile in 53 4-5. being brought home over the last two furlongs by the two-year-old Ring Chief in 26. The last-named was fairly backward when he commenced fast work a few weeks back, but he has come to hand rapidly of late. Winsome Lu (Reilly) traversed six furlongs in T. 21, the first three in 40. No fault can be found with her condition.

Retort (McDonald) dashed over two furlongs in 26 1-5. completing her task nicely. She is to contest the Debutante Stakes at Awapuni next mouth. High Tone (Ryan), another candidate for the race, shaded Battledress (Holland) over the same ground to record 26. Resingold (S. Grindlay) again pleased in a schooling bout over four hurdles. A four-year-old son of Resinous—Goldzone, he lias been a failure on the flat, but may have a future in the jumping depart men). Recent additions to the stable of 11. Scully are the former northern-trained Min Vaals and the two-ycnr-idd halfsister to Sea Link by Mullaboden. Both will carry the colours of Mr. 11. Sutton. O. Cox has not. enjoyed the best of health in recent, weeks, and ho is still confined to his bed. He has reduced his team to three, and their work at present is being supervised by A. Rouse.
