WASTE MATERIALS
Collection Depots To Be
Established
WELLINGTON EFFORT
A proposal to have depots established at Courtenay Place, the tramway sheds at the G.P.0., and at the railway station, was discussed fit yesterday’s meeting of the Wellington committee set up for the purpose of organizing the reclamation of waste material. Mr. C. Todd presided. Many other suggestions were, discussed, but the establishing of depots is the first step in the national effort now in progress to reclaim waste materials. A bulletin from the national council outlined the most essential metals as follows: —Aluminium sheet (pans, etc.) ; aluminium cast (handles, etc.) ; brass, bronze, gunmetal; copper, other than insulated or covered wires: copper wires, insulated or covered; lead foil; aluminium foil; lead tubes, tin tubes, lead; zinc; brass lamp caps. The value of saving tooth paste tubes and any such goods containing tin was stressed; also, old car batteries could have the vulcanite knocked out and the lead plates collected. The chairman explained that the object was to have people leave goods at the depots. They would then be collected and sorted. He also explained that Dominion-wide publicity was being organized, and householders would be" urged to cut out newspaper advertisements dealing with the organization of the scheme, and have them prominently displayed in the house.
