Education Board Chairman
Re-elected
Mr. W. V. Dyer, chairman of the Wellington Education Board for the past six years, was unanimously reelected for a further term of two years at yesterday’s meeting of the board. Kepi esentatives of every ward paid tribute to Mr. Dyer’s ability and tact, his wide knowledge of educational matters and the intricacies of regulations governing them.
I think my colleagues will admit that there is only one man for the job, said Mr. J, J. Clark, in proposing the reappointment of Mr. Dyer. His wide, practical knowledge was of inestimable value to the board, said Mr. Clark, and he seemed to have fitted into the educational side to a quite remarkable degree. His amiability was proverbial.
.Mr. L. J. McDonald, who seconded die motion, said he doubted whether there was any intrn associated with local-body life in New Zealand who had ever given more worthy service than Mr. Dyer, who had set an example in bis attention to bis duties, his sense of fair play and the ability he displayed it> handling the public affairs of the board.
Other members and the senior inspector, Mr. S J, Irwin, added their tributes and Mr. Dyer was unanimously re-elected.
thanking members, Mr. Dyer said he took his unanimous re-election as a very great compliment indeed. The chairman welcomed the two new hjhhitiers, Messrs. S. C Hyndman and 1. K. Moody. He congratulated Messrs. M. Henderson, J. Stonehouse and G. 11. W. Nicholls, who were successful at tlie election, and Messrs. J. D. O’Connor and A. Donald, who were returned unopposed.
It vvas decided to place on record appreciation of the services to education rendered by Mr. W. D. Pike, who lost bis spat to Mr. Hyndman.
