STORE BURGLED IN EARLY EVENING
Clothing Stolen; Packed Case Left Behind
Dominion Special Service,
HASTINGS, August 21
An intruder who broke into a men's outfitting store, A. J. Jones and Co., Hastings, between 6 and 7 p.m. yesterday, decamped with clothing valued at about £2O. That he was disturbed is shown by the fact that a suitcase packed with other apparel was left behind. Entry to the shop was accomplished by forcing the main door at a time when there were a number of people about. When Mr. Jones left the shop at 6.10 p.m., he made certain that the doors were securely fastened, and -it is thought that the burglary was committed between then and 6.30 p.m., at -which time the community lighting system becomes operative. It might have been the sudden lighting-up of the display windows that frightened the intruder. The burglary was discovered at about 7 p.m., when a pedestrian noticed that the door into the shop had been forced.
