Travel Club

More than 50 otlit'ors and men ”f the Royal New Z-ealand Air Force stationed at liongotai, and also .some Irom Woodbourne, Blenheim, were the guests of the AVellington Travel Club last night at; a reeeplion in their honour. Tile chairman, Mr. IL IL Seotl, explained that the club desired, as a patriotic gesture, to entertain the airman in this lilting manner. Tlte Majestic Cabaret was filled to capacity with members and friends, and appropriate decorations consisting of large Union Jacks and other flags were displayed about the ballroom. During the past few weeks, the chairman said, the Royal Air force in England had proved its superiority over its opponents. Serving with that force were 1-100 New Zealanders, and when the time came for those now in training in New Zealand to play their pari, in this "epic battle tor England," ho knew they would emulate the exploits made famous by Hie R.A.F. Mr. Seotl. called for three cheers for Hie guests of tbe evening, those present responding enthusiastically. At the official table were Flight Lieutenant Hewett and Mrs. Hewett, Flight Lieutenant Shanley and Mrs. Shanley, Flight Lieutenant Manhire and Mrs. .Manhire, Flying Ollieer Adams and Mrs. Adams. Flying Officer Kirkcaldie and Mrs. Kirkcaldie, and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Holland.

The hostesses were, Mrs. P. G. Harle, Mrs. E. R. Myers, Mrs. T. M. Donovan, Mrs. G. A. Adams, Miss N. E. Donovan (secretary). Till 10 o'clock an entertaining programme of items was interspersed with dancing. Supper was served at that stage, and after that, dancing continued till midnight. Those contributing, to the programme were Miss Miriam Gibbs, violin solo, accompanied by Miss Joan Gibbs: Miss Sylvia Pevenic, song, accompanied by Mrs. Bernard Webb; musical quartet, by the courtesy of Mr. J. F. AVoodhani; Miss Phyllis Oliver's patriotic ballot, "Wings Over the N'avy"; Miss Peggy Killeen and Mr. J. James, “A Viennese AValtz." specialty.
