OBITUARY

Mr. J. Hislop

The death has occurred of a wellknown former Napier school headmaster, Air, James Hislop, aged 72, says a “Dominion” Special .Service message. He was headmaster of Napier Central School from 1904 till 1934, when he retired. Air. Hislop was trained for the teaching profession in Dunedin, and afterward was appointed first assistant at Central School, New Plymouth. In 1892 he moved to Napier and took up an appointment as second assistant at the District School (later Napier Central School). After serving for a time as first assistant, in 1904 Air. Hisl >p became headmaster of the school, cn his retirement in January, 1934, he took up residence in Havelock North. Air. Hislop played a prominent, pan in military circles. He first joined th" volunteers as a member of the defence cadets in Dunedin. He subsequent],', became an officer in cadet corps in New Plymouth, and on going to Napier he was elected captain of the cit.' cadets. Later he was promoted ti adjutant of the Third (East Coast' Battalion. Wellington Rifle Volunteers He also held the rank of major com manding No. 1 Battalion, Hawke’s Bai Public School Cadets, and later be came lieutenant-colonel of tlie Hawke’s Bay Uegimemt. He is survived by two sons, Messrs. Stewart Hislop (Auckland) and Roslyn Hislop (Hastings), and one daughter, Mrs. Tony Gardiner (Havelock North). Mr. Albert Young Air. Albert Young, fourth son of the late Air. Andrew Young, who played an important part in transiporit services of AVellington province in the early days, died in AVellington yesterday morning, after an illness extending over the last 18 months. The late Air. Young who was 68 years of age, was born in Wellington. lie was educated by private tutor and, later, at the AVellington Boys’ College. On leaving school, he became apprenticed to the engineering trade at AV. Cable and Co.'s foundry, where he served his time. He was a resident of Cbristcliurcii for more than 30 years. He was occupied in various ways, till his retirement 10 years ago, when lie went to reside at. Sumner. There he spent a great deal of his time in developing a beautiful rock garden. He played bowls on the Sumner club’s green. Thinking a change of air might benefit his health, lie. came to Wellington 18 months ttgo.

The late Mr. Young leaves a widow (w Miss Kale Plim ter. daughter of the late Mr. Henry Plimmer), and one son. Mr. Douglas Young. Auckland. Mrs. Ruby Atkinson, Wellington, Mrs. Selina Bowker, Timaru, and Mrs. May Daly, Christchurch, are sisters, and Mr. Frank Young, Adelaide, is a brother. The funeral will leave the mortuary chapel in Kent Terrace for the crematorium at .11.30 a.in. today. Mrs. H. A. v Huntley A valued resident of Eoxloii. Mrs. Hannah Amy Huntley, died recently ill Palmerston North Hospital. says a ”Deminion” .Special Service message. She was the eldest, daughter of Ilie late Mr. Thomas Bangs. Camberwell, London, and came to New Zealand with her husband in 19<*5. Apart, front a short, time at Moawhango, she hud since lived in Foxton. Mi’S. Huntley was keenly interested in Sunday school work and was a teacher and the secretary of the Methodist Sunday school for 25 years. She was also a foundation member of the W.C.T.U. and was cradle roll secretary and vice-president for many years. During the Great War Mrs. Huntley devoted much time and energy to patriotic work.

She is survived by her husband, Air. A. G. Huntley, and one daughter, Miss Grace Huntley. Three sisters and two ■brothers live in England, and Mr. A. W, Bangs, Rotorua, and Mr. A. T. Bangs, Auckland, are also brothers.
