University Club Holds Championship

SUCCESS FOR scour

The University club held Its club championship over the provincial championship Gt-mile course at Silverstream on Saturday. Two days of Gue weather left the course very much firmer than on the preceding week, and a good pace was set by Scott, who held his position throughout the race, closely followed by Cairns. Results were: Senior: Scott (39.32), 1; Cairns (46.6), 2; R. M. Daniell (41.2), 3; O’Flynn (41.3), 4: De la Mare (42.6), 5: Rowberry (43.49), 6: C. G. AVilson (44.26), 7. O Connor and Scrymgeour, caught by the prevailing influenza, were spectators on the day. A sealed handicap was held in conjunction with the championships. Amended times were: Daniell (37.32), 1; Scott (38.1 i 2; De la Mare (38.36), 3. A junior championship of 3 1-8 miles tone lap of the same course) was won by Morton (21.14); Green (21.19) 2, L. Three packs covered the trail. R. Flint, S. AVilletts C. Pocock. AVellington club, ran well, while W. McNaught, Olympic, showed good form. Next Saturday the AVellington club will be the guests of the club manager. Mr. 11. Spence, 55 McKinley Crescent, Brooklyn. The old boys’ memorial race wilt be held. Scottish Club.—The club runnerx were the guests of two of the membere on Saturday in a run from Eastbourne, the hosts being T. Bartlett and It. Ballantyne. After a strenuous race last week in the provincial championships tlie runners felt in holiday mood, and set off in one pack only. Nevertheless, the run developed into a strenuous one over the hills surrounding Eastbourne, and down to Butterfly Creek, making a complete circle back home, a distance of about eight miles lining covered. Iluiinere who showed good form were H. Wliennian, D. Henderson. R. Ballantyne, A. Heaton, and T. Darker. A run-in over the last 200 yards resulted: D. Henderson and A. Berryman, 1: H. AVhenman, A. Stevens, 3. The run next Saturday will be from Petone. Methodist Club.—The club held a Oi-mile open handicap in ideal weather from Maranui Methodist Church. Tlie limit men set a solid pace over the early part of the race. The beach at Byall Bay proved to be heavy going and helped to bunch the field. Ihe scratch man, T. Kennedy, in setting new figures for tlie course, made exceptionallj fast time along tlie beach and through the lupins, and gradually overtook the field to gain a popular second placing just behind C. Hulston. A line run was made by J. McKinney, who, from a back mark, filled third place. Results: C. Hulston. 6.30. 1: T Kennedy, scr., 2; J. McKinney, 1.30. 3; T. Ninncs. 5.30, 4; E. Patterson, 2.30. I’resbvterinn Club.—Thirty members ot the club enjoyed n run over n trait of 10 miles from the Island Bay Presbyterian Church on Saturday. Prominent runners were S H.av. J. Crawford. T. Kirkby. and II Hawker.’ Afternoon tea was served by the voting women of the church. Next week s run’will be from the Kliandallah Presbyterinn Church. Brooklyn Club.—An invitation run was hold from the residonce of the field captain G Appleby, Kelhuvn, the course of seven miles skirting: Wndestown and Karorl. and including much hill work. Some 45 members were dispatched in three packs The performances of new members, Rvrne and Rvnn, wore particularly encouraging Cundiff and Anderson again ran well, and Moir, Appleby, and Sinclair (fast pack), Daly (intermediatei. and Coster and Wilkinson’(junior), showed up well.
