Hawke’s Bay farms were discussed at. a meeting of farmers which was called as a result of a similar gathering addressed about 10 days ago by Mr. Polson, M.P. Au organization on the lines suggested by Mr. Polson was discussed, and committees were appointed to bring before individual farmers the urgent need for increased production in whatever direction their areas were best suited and to sift out other information. . Mr. C. Marchant, a membci oL the Dairy Board, said it was felt that: a rapid expansion of cheese produetio was necessary, and . the only way to do that was to transfer milk at piesent sent in to butter factories into cheese manufacture, borne 10 days the British Government had asked New Zealand to increase the output of cheese by at least. .15,000 tons, and up to as much as 30,000 tons. At present only about one-fifth of New Zealand's milk supplies went into cheese production. Output of Bacon. Mr. Marchant appealed to. dairyfarmers to pull their full weight in efforts to increase the - 10,000 tons, which meant about 100,000 frci-dit carcases.
