WANGANUI TRACKS

Horses For Trentham

Dominion Special Service.

WANGANUI, July 2.

The Wanganui horses engaged at Trentham were responsible for some good work this morning, though more of them were tried out seriously. The conditions were favourable, the going in great order for this time of the year. Amigo (K. Chote) was not asked to do his best in a spin over six furlongs, being under restraint all the way, and registering I.IBJ out in the middle of the track. Amigo will probably be paid up for in both the sprint and mile events, as his owner-trainer has not yet decided in which to start the Beau Pere gelding. If it were not for the risk of drawing a bad marble t.he decision would probably favour the Whyte Handicap, but an outside position in that race with his big loud would, it is thought, ruin his prospects, whereas the luck of the draw would not count for so much in the Stewards’. Gold Gain, with about 9.0 in the saddle, put in a round at half-pace, and t,hen slipped over six furlongs in 1.19 1-5. The Gainscourt gelding is a nice mover, and a very strong finisher, but slow to gather up pace. Just how he will act in soft going remains to be seen. D. Marks came in from Fordell wirh Ruatiti, Tuatara, and Red Cat. The last-named was given a run over five furlongs by herself, but was allowed to take things easily, registering .1.7. The Iliad mare is on the small side, hut she is game, and probably better uow than ever. .Ruatiti jumped off at the six-furlong post, and was picked up at five furlongs by Tuatara. The former was out near the rails, and going well within_himself all the way, his time being 1.18 4-5, which he could have bettered considerably if required. Tuatara hit out freely and finished on terms with the Limond gelding, the live furlongs taking 1.5. '

Pekoe (G. Dowrick) was. given a run over live hurdles, jumping well, though inclined to run the obstacles down, but no doubt he would do better in company. The Kiosk gelding is iu great heart, and his pace on the flat should make him hard to dispose of in his races next week.

Sir Beau (Dowrick) was given some slow work and then ran half a mile, going very comfortably in 55. Pin Money (B. Gosford) hopped over five hurdles in free style, going straight at the obstacles and jumping cleanly at a fast pace. If he keeps sound this gelding promises to make good Os' a hurdler. Homily has resumed work after enjoying a spell since racing at Wanganui last month. The Posterity mare has benefited greatly by the holiday, having put ou a lot. of condition, and she is looking in great, heart. The Mui-lon Jockey Club has"decided to adopt wiu and place betting for the spring meeting. Mr. I). Guiney. Wellington. was appointed ns judge I'or the 191041. season and letters of .appreciation are to be forwarded to Messrs. W. P. Russell and A. V. (I'Bricn tor their services in the past.

Horses traineil al Fordell by I>. Marks for Mr. W. Mi'A. Duncan have won stakes totalling £2085 this season, a sum which would probably h:ive been much larger but for minor injuries preventing some of the Fordell horses from milking many appearances under silk. There is every prospect of Red Cat, Rualiti and Tuaiiirii winning more money at Trantham next week between them.
