NEW MANUFACTURING BUSINESSES

Attraction To Wellington CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PUBLICITY “The chamber is at all times effective lu the many avenues by which it publicizes the commercial, aesthetic and educational advantages of the city, but during the last year has given special attention to the attracting of new manufacturing businesses which have been brought into being because of the Import restrictions,” states the 1940 annual report of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, recently published. “A special brochure was issued and this lias been the subject of many most favourable reports,” the report adds. “Resulting from these endeavours, the many personal contacts made, and the great volume of information supplied in reply to overseas communications, Wellington and district have benefited' materially by the establishment of new enterprises. “We feel justified in stating that many congratulatory letters have been received from genuine inquirers regarding the completeness of the information which has been available from the office of the chamber. “In addition to the brochure, a special large display card, drawing attention to the industrial opportunities of New Zealand and of Wellington in particular, was widely distributed overseas for display in all types of public places likely to be frequented by those interested in the industrial possibilities of the Dominion. “These publications have, however, not interfered with the general publicity work of the chamber. Though trade restrictions have materially reduced the number of outside trade inquiries, Wellington definitely has much to attract all classes of trade, as well as the more casual tourist, and the chamber does not hesitate to do more than might be reasonably expected of it in ‘telling the world’.” i
