ANTI-WAR MOVE IN SOUTH AFRICA
Hertzog And Malan JOHANNESBURG, June 24. General Hertzog, the former Premier, and Dr. Malan have issued a joint statement demanding the immediate summoning of Parliament, inviting their supporters to hold meetings of protest against the declaration of war against Italy without the consulting of Parliament, and demanding the immediate withdrawal of the Union from I he war. General Hertzog has embarked upon an intensive anti-war campaign. GIFTS FOR BRITISH WAR EFFORT (British Official Wireless.) ItUGBY, June 24. Generous gifts in furtherance of the British war effort continue Io be made by individuals in many parts of the Empire. The latest gift is from Sir Harry and Lady Oakes, of Nassau, Bahamas, who have cabled £lOOO to the Ministry of Aircraft Production for the purchase of a fighter aeroplane. Sir Harry Oakes is a member of the Bahamas House of Assembly. A fond which is being raised in British Guinea to purchase a bombing aircraft totalled 152,000 dollars in the first week.
