Suffocated By Smoke (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, -May 28._ _ When firemen entered a house at 35 Rosewartie Street, Spreydon, at mid-ni'-lit tlicv found an elderly woman, Edith’ Ellen McLeod, dead in a bedroom which was tilled with smoke. When the door was burst open the smouldering mattress burst into flames bill the lire was quickly suppressed. It is thought that the woman, who was alone in the house, fell asleep while smoking in bed and was suffocated by the smouldering mattress.
