TATTOO AND PAGEANT
In Town Hall Next Monday To stimulate enthusiasm for the cause of the Allies, a military tattoo and “Pageant of the Allies” will be held in the Town Hall, Wellington, on the night of the King’s Birthday holiday, next Monday. Keen support is forthcoming from the civic and military heads, and from the Consuls of the Allied nations. Two bands will be in attendance, the Trentham Band, under Lieutenant Pike, and the I’ort Nicholson Silver Band. During the night brief addresses will be given by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, Sir Harry Batterbee, the High Commissioner for Canada. Dr. W. A. Riddell, the mayor of 'Wellington. Mr. Hislop, and the Consuls for France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. A feature of the proceedings will be a grand march of the Allies, preceded by standard bearers. There will also be community singing of popular wartime songs, with band accompaniment. and songs will be contributed by Mr. K. Macaulay and Mr. A. Elston. The gathering will end on a solemn note of dedication to the cause of Britain ami her Allies, following brief addresses by tbe Bishop of Wellington, the Rt. Rev. 11. St. Barbe Holland, and the Archbishop of Wellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand, the Most Rev. Thomas O’Shea. The gathering being a national one, there will be no charge for admission, but a collection will be taken up to defray expenses.
