While returning lo Palmerston North Irom a business visit to Dannevirke in a privately-owned two-seater PiperCub aeroplane on 'Wednesday, Air. E. V. West, Paltne rston .North, encountered a very severe head wind when he reached the ranges and was forced to make a landing on Woodville racecourse. Mr. West met the wind when approaching Woodville just after midday, and so rough were lite flying conditions that his small-powered machine was able to make little headway ; in addition the fierce down-draughts made flying conditions anything but easy. Ho decided to make a landing and came on to Palmerston North the following morning. Tic had a passenger with him iu the machine.
