ASSAULT IN HOTEL
14 Days’ Jail Imposed
A sentence of 11 days’ imprisonment was imposed on Barret Bonis Rutledge, seaman, aged 21, when lie appeared before Mr. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrates' Court, Wellington, yesterday, charged with drunkenness, with assiiulting Elizabeth Anne Berryman, and with using obscene language. On the charges of drunkenness and using obscene language Rutledge was convicted and discharged. Sub-Inspector D. R. Capp, who prosecuted, said that at 5.40 p.m. on Monday, Rutledge went into the Brunswick Hotel, Vivian Street, with two other men. They were drunk and the licensee refused to serve them. The two other men-then went away but Rutledge stayed on, becoming abusive and threatening to strike the licensee. lie went into the passage where he used liltliy language and struck Mrs. Berryman.
