NORWEGIAN SEAMAN IN COURT

Charged with unlawfully landing m New Zealand, Karl Erik Pcttcrseu, a Norwegian seaman, aged 40, appeared before Mr. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday. An interpreter told the Court that Petterson said be had wanted to return to liis ship but it was in the stream and he was not able to get out to it. A shipping company representative said Petterson’s effects had been put ashore, so it appeared that he had intended to slay. Petterson had applied for a permit to stay in the Dominion but it hail been refused him. Petterson was remanded in custody, a direction being made that he be placed on the first, available Norwegian ship.
