There is once again an acute shortage of wooden matches in Auckland. Only one ol’ eight shops in Queen Street approached recently had any supplies at all, and it was selling but. one box to each purchaser of cigarettes or tobacco. Wax matches were easier to obtain, though two shops out of the eight had no supplies of these. A similar position arose about the same dale last month,, though not so many shops were entirely without safety matches.
After being aground at Pakiri Beach, near Leigh, for nearly a fortnight the scow Combine, of 20 tons, owned by Winstone, Limited, has been refloated and towed to Auckland by the launch Mona’s Isle. The Combine was carried ashore by a heavy swell and was taken so high on the beach that. it. was necessary to construct a skidway to the water to refloat the vessel.
