Further Appointments By Mr. Churchill

SIR KINGSLEY WOOD TO TREASURY Duff Cooper And Herbert Morrison Included (British Official Wireless and Press Assn.) LONDON, May 12. The Prime Minister, ■ Mr. Churchill, has announced the appointment of the following additional Ministers: — Sir John Simon, Lord Chancellor. Sir Kingsley Wood, Chancellor of the Exchequer. Sir John Anderson, Home Secretary and Alinister of Home Security. Lord Lloyd, Secretary of State for the Colonies.

Sir Andrew Duncan, President of the Board of Trade. Mr. Herbert Morrison, Minister of Supply. Mr. A. Duff Cooper, Minister ot Information.

The principal members of the new Government wore sworn in at a Privy Council held by the King shortly after midday at Buckingham Palace. Sir Samuel Hoare and Mr. Oliver Stanley had audiences of the King at Buckingham Palace this morning, when they took leave of His Majesty on relinquishing their appointments as Secretary of State for Air and Secretary of State for War. Mr. Churchill had his second audience of the King since he became Prime Minister, at Buckingham Palace this evening. x As a preliminary to tomorrows meeting of the Labour Party Conference, at which Mr. Attlee and Mr. Greenwood will speak, the Labour executives—the Parliamentary Labour Party and the General Council of the Trades Union Council—met this afternoon at Bournemouth and approved firn following resolution: “This meeting of these national executives records its approval of the decision taken by the leaders and the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party in their efforts to strengthen the machinery of the Government in this country for the purpose of bringing the war to a successful conclusion.”

Mr. Arthur Greenwood. Mr. Arthur Greenwood, who is u 9 years of age, was first returned for Nelson and Colne in 1922, and was made Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health in Mr. Ramsay MacDonald’s first Government. lie was Minister of Health in 1929-31, and is an acknowledged expert on health questions. During the war lie served under Dr. Addison at the Ministry of Reconstruction. .Mr. Greenwood was formerly a lecturer on economies at Leeds, and for n number of years has directed the Labour Party s Research and Information Department, of which he is secretary. Sir Archibald Sinclair. Sir Archibald. Sinclair, who was horn in 1890, entered Parliament in 1922 as a Liberal member for a Scottish seat, and Ims been Leader of the Liberal Oppqsi tion since 1935. He was personal military secretary Io (lie Secretary of State for'War from 1919 to 1921, private secretary to the Secretary of State for Colonies, 1921-22; Chief Liberal Whip, 1930-31; and Secretary of State for Scotland, 1931-32. He was educated at Eton and Sandhurst, and entered the Army in 1910. Mr. Anthony Eden. Mr. Anthony Eden, who replaces Mr. Oliver Stanley, is the youngest Minister

holding a major portfolio, being -13 years of age. lie has had a distinguished scholastic, military and political career, ami has been a Conservative member of Parliament since 1923. He was Secretary of Stale for Foreign Affairs from 1935 to 1938, and has been Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs since 1939. Mr. A. V. Alexander. .Mr. A. V. Alexander, who was 55 rears old this month, has been Cooperative member for the Hillsborough division of Sheffield since 1935, and previously represented it from 1922 to 1931. lie is secretary of the Parliamentary Committe of the Co-operative Congress. He was Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade in 1924, and First Lord of the Admiralty in the Labour Government of 1929-31. Later he was iit the Foreign Ollice, where he was regarded as an inspired draughtsman. He entered the House of Commons in 192-1. In 1928-29 and also in 1931-34 he was Financial Secretary at the War Ollice. lie was Financial Secretary to the 'l'reasurv in 1935; Secretary lor War in 1935-37,'and First Lord of the Admiralty in 1937-38. Lord Lloyd.
