Items Of Interest From The Provinces CORONATION TRIPLETS Birthday Of Hawke’s Bay Children The third birthday of the “Coronation Triplets,” Mary, Rose and rJizabetli, daughters of Mr. ami Mrs. J. C. Anderson, Kahuranaki, Havelock North, fell yesterday, for they were born on Coronation Day, 1937. The three children were the recipients of many good wishes ami presents from all parts of the district, but because of the illness of their sister, no party was held. This, however, will be something for the children to look forward to, for the party is to be held m about a week, when it is expected that Nola will be out of hospital and. well enough to take part in the celebration.

Tec Shot Holed. A member of the Castlecliff (Wanganui) Ladies’ Golf Club, Mrs. A. Marshall, holed in one at the Cornfoot Park links during the week-end. The feat wa« achieved at the short hole known as “Crisis,” which is 150 yards from tee to pin.

Competitions Champions. Championships were awarded at the Manawatu Competitions Society's annual festival as follows: Champion woman vocalist, Miss D. Short (Fcilding), 23 points; champion girl elocutionist, Peggy Liunell (Hastings), 14 points; champion boy elocutionist, Ray McKenzie (Hauraki Plains), 14 points; champion■ operatic dancer, Ngaire Bynam (Lower Hutt), 18 points; champion national dancer, Janet Cunningham (Gore) and Dorothy McLean (Palmerston North). 16 points each.

Killing Of Cattie. During the past few weeks large numbers of fat cattle have arrived at the Imlay freezing works. Wanganui, for slaughtering. The rapid shortening of feed has induced graziers to get thenstock to the works as quickly as possible, with a corresponding demand on the Railways Department for transport.

£lOOO Gift To Chui-ch. Under the will of the late Miss Nita McHardy, a gift of £lOOO has been made to St. Andrew’s Church, Palmerston North. At the service on Sunday morning the minister, the Rev. J. Hubbard, said that during her lifetime Miss McHardy had made several substantial donations to the church. He had often wondered why so many people with resources lived and died without assisting the church. There was no organization in the whole world more worthy of generosity being shown it. and he trusted that Miss McHardy's .example would not bo lost on those wlto were in a position to help. Long Sailplane Flight. A long, soaring flight of live minutes 38 seconds was accomplished by Mr. A. N. Oliver, instructor to the Napier Aero Club, in the club’s new Tutor sailplane. The flight was made from Beacons Aerodrome at. about noon, when small i-utniilus clouds giving good soaring conditions were plentiful.

Locomotive Foreman Retires. Following -10 years’ service tit the locomotive running hraueli, Mr. F. .1. Robertson, locomotive foreman, Wanganui, has retired from the Railways Department. He joined the department at East Town in 7900, and was soon afterward transferred to Mangnonoho, then Hie terminus of the Main Trunk line. Later ho served in Hawerti, Hustings, Napier, Marton, New Plymouth, Foxton, ami Wellington for about 23 years. Shortly after his transfer to Wellington he was promoted engine-driver. lie wits afterward appointed assistant locomotive foreman. Cross Creek, assistant locomotive foreman in Taumarunui and Palmerston North, and finally locomotive foreman, Wanganui.
