AT ENGLISH PORT
Scandinavian Ships Raided LONDON, May 2. A German plane machine-gunned two Scandinavian ships which were lying at a berth alongside each other at ati English port on the northeast coast last night. There were no casualties but the raider damaged deck cabins. It flew over the town and then went south. A French official communique states: “During operations iu the North .Sea one of our destroyers was seriously damaged, and one of our patrol ships was sunk by a mine. On the other hand, one of our submarines torpedoed an enemy submarine.” It is officially announced in London that the convoy sloop Bittern (1190 tons) was set on fire after repeated attacks by German bombers, one of which was shot down iu flames and others severely handled. Our own forces finally sank the Bittern to avoid it becoming a danger to navigation. The crew boarded another warship. No casualties are reported. The German High Command claims that German planes successfully bombed two British aircraft-carriers and a destroyer yesterday oft the western coast of Norway and shot down two British escorting lighters. One Gorman bomber was lost.
