OBTAINING PETROL WITHOUT LICENCE
Wellington Man Fined £7 Dominion Special Service. NAPIER, April 29. “Au impudent evasion of the regulations,” was how Mr. Miller, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Napier, today described Hie action of a Wellington man, Erie William Mason, in obtaining petrol from a Westshore garage without the use of coupons or a licence. Douglas Hill, garage attendant, toid Hie Court how Masoir had had four gallons of petrol put into his car. lie paid for this and, remarking Hurt liis petrol licence was probably in Hie car, went out and drove away while witness was making his entry. Witness notexl the number of the car as it moved off. Mason liad in liis possession a petrol licence which he could have used, and this still allowed him seven gallons. The police pointed out that he apparently preferred to save that amount. ••The object, is to conserve petrol, and if some people do this kind of thing others will have to go without,” the magistrate said when fining Mason £7, with costs 14/3.
