CHINESE ATTACK IN SOUTH-EAST By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. NEW YORK, April 28. The Chungking correspondent of the “New York Times” says that heavy fighting continues in Shansi. The Japanese are endeavouring to sweep the Chinese out of the southern part of the province, and Japanese columns of 30,090 to 40,000 troops are driving from bases at Changcbih, Clmngtse, Hukwan, Fouslmn, and Yicheng south to Tovangchen, Tungcheng. and Chinclioiig’along the Shansi-Honan border. Simultaneously, a column from Paoan is attempting to effect a junction with units from the north in the vicinity of Chineheng. The Chinese are attacking in southeast Shansi and have retaken cities along the route. The Japanese losses are reported to be heavy.
