Pohutukawas On Highways
Sir, —It is pleasant news that tree planting is to he carried out along tlie Paekakariki road, and some of us are hoping that the placing of these young trees may be put into the hands of some able person who has knowledge of the natural conditions of native trees. Pohutukawas are to be seen in great beauty along the Opotiki coast, in large or small groups, scaling tlie cliffs and rooted in clefts in the rocks, but never are they found in formal rows or in orchard-like formations. This can be taken as a respectf'.il reminder that tree planting or placing does call for quite an uncommon degree of taste and judgment.—l am, etc., M.E.G. Eastbourne, April 27.
