Scries Of Films Shown
An interesting series of motion pictures taken by Mr. B. E. Champtaloup, touring manger of tire Automobile Association (Auckland) during a recent tour abroad was shown to members of tlie Main Highways Board and senior officers of Hie Public Works Department, as well as members of the executive of the Automobile Association (Wellington) recently. Those present included Mr. .1. Wood, chairman of the .Main Highways Board : -Mr. A. J. Baker, deputy-chairman: .Mr. E. A. Batt, chairman of Hit* Automobile Association ( Wellington l ; Mr. Walsh, chief surveyor. Lands and Survey Department; and .Mr. F. Hayes, representing the Canadian Pacific Kailways. The pictures, which generally covered Mr. Champtaloup's tour, were of partieiilar interest in regard to trallic and reading conditions abroad, and tile prime purpose of taking them was to obtain information which could be used in New Zealand to indicate traffic and reading conditions overseas.
Of considerable importance were tire details of Hie German "Autobahns,” several sections of modern road in England incorporating Hie provision made to carry as many as six lanes of trallic, and the provision made for by-passing towns and villages for the purpose of avoiding trallic congestion and delays. One feature of Hie Him related to roads in the small State of Luxemburg, where roadside hoardings are entirely prohibited, ' and Mr.'
Cliamptaloup outlined details of steps which were being taken in other countries to prohibit this form of, advertising.
