Scottish Champions

INDIVIDUAL HONOURS TO T. BARTLETT

More than 250 harriers from .Nelson, Hastings, Masterton, Stratford and Wellington clubs faced the starter in the centennial cross country race, which started from the Exhibition grounds on Saturday. Beginning at the fountain, the course followed Centennial Avenue to the Kingsford Smith Street gates, then to Moa Point, over the hills to Scots College and back to the Exhibition. The junior and senior events were run off together, the seniors covering a further half-mile at the end of'the junior course. Scottish won the senior teams race,, the individual championship going to T. Bartlett, of that club. lu the junior event Wellington gained first place, ,the championship being shared by C. McManus (Wellington), and 11. Ballantyne (Scottish). After the race the competitors were given the freedom of the Exhibition, a privilege of which full advantage was taken. Many of the hardier presented an unusual sight when they clambered over the fountain, and floundered in the icy water. Results:

Parkin (Wellington), 17.52 2-5, 5. The starter was Mr. T, W. Leslie. After the races' the competitors were 1 lie guests of the Scottish club at afternoon tea. The chairman of the barrier subcommittee of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, Mr. It. Spence, presented the trophies to the winners'. University Club. A keen field of 19 faced the starter for the novice race of two-and-half miles from Worser Bay bathing sheds and over the Seatoun 'heights. liesuite were:— R. M. Daniell, 14min. 25sec., 1; F. D. The time was particularly fast, the winner bettering the previous best for the course by more than half a minute. Next week’s run will be an invitation one. starting from Island Bay.
