Michael Bedgrave, genial male lead of “The Lady Vanishes” and other films, plays Peter Thompson, a young .crane driver on one of London’s docks, in “A Window in London,” retained for a further week by the management ot the Plaza Theatre. Patricia Boe plays Peters wife, and Sally Gray and I’aul Lukas Vivien Zoltini and her husband. Pat, Peter's wife, is a . telephone operator on night shift in one of the big London hotels, so that, except for tlie weekends, the Thompson family hardly meets. One morning when ott to work by way of the underground, 1 eter sees a man and woman struggling on the balcony in front of one of a block ot flats. He jumps out of the train, gets a policeman, and traces the window. M hen he finds the flat to which it is attached he discovers the Zoltiuis. Viviene Zoltini is a young and beautiful girl, married to a husband who is much older than herself and who is intense!)’ jealous of his young wile. When Peter and the policeman enter the room, Zoltini explains that they are magicians out of work, and that the scene Peter witnessed was merely a rehearsal of one of their acts. Peter is attracted by Vivien, and she invites him to see them at the theatre. While at the theatre, Zoltini, in a fit of rage, strikes his wife across the face, with the result that she walks out on him. She asks Peter to take her away where they can talk, and he takes her up to the cabin of his crane. Finally, she decides to go to an old friend who lias promised help whenever she should need it. She leaves her handba ,r in the crane, cabin, and, when I eter goes back for it, Zoltini follows him, and they fight. Zoltini falls into the Thames, and Peter, thinking he has killed him, goes to Vivien and tells her. Vivien realizes that ii. spite of everything she still loves Zoltini. and goes back to their flat. What happens after that to botli the couples, and now they become reconciled (or not) would be unfair to reveal, but the ending, suflice it to say, is unexpected and striking.
