WOMEN FROM WAIKATO
Visit To Parliament House WELCOME BY MR. FRASER About 300 members of women’s institutes iu the Waikato, who have come to Wellington to see the Centennial Exhibition, paid a visit to Parliament House yesterday afternoon. Before making an inspection of the buildings they were welcomed in the social room by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, wino referred to the benefits of the group travel scheme whereby parties of citizens were able to see something of their own country. Mr. Fraser said he was delighted at the thousands who had been able to come from distant parts of the country to Wellington to see the Exhibition by co-operating among themselves. Thanks to the assistance of the Department of Internal Affairs and the Railways Department, reasonable arrangements had been made. What had already been done in the way of group travel to the Exhibition would be extended. He hoped that group travel would become a permanent feature of the country’s social life. Paying a tribute to the Exhibition, Mr. Fraser said that it transcended anything thought possible. . A visit to the various courts and exhibits was a thing of engrossing interest. Every step one took one felt that he or she was receiving education about our own country. He did not think any country in the world could produce a finer exhibit than that in the education court. Jlr, Fraser was introduced to the gathering by the Dominion president of the Women’s Institutes, Miss A. Kane. Ou behalf of the party, Mrs. H. Kerr, Waitoa, cordially thanked the Prime Minister for sparing the time to welcome the party. She also expressed keen appreciation of the help given by the Railways Department in making the transport arrangements for the party.
