TEMPERANCE UNION
Central Branch Meeting The central branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union met recently in tlie New Zealand Educational Institute rooms, AVellington. Tlie president, Airs. Israel, was in the chair, and Mrs. Weldon led devotions. The temperance fact was as follows: "Cardinal Gibbons in 1915 said: 'The great curse of the labouring man is intemperance. It. has brought more desolation to the wage-earner than strikes or war, or sickness or death. It lias caused little children to be hungry and cold and to grow up among evil associations. It has broken up more homes and wrecked more lives than any other cause.” A report was given by Mrs. Long on behalf of the committee which met to arrange for a cradle roll parly. Arrangements were made for members to attend the W.C.T.LL stall at the Exhibition during its last week. Mrs. Israel welcomed two visitors from the Linwood union and two visitors from New Brighton, who brought greetings from their unions. On liehalf of the central branch. Airs. Israe 1 asked them to convey greetings to their unions. Airs. Wright accompanied Mrs. Andrew when she sang Hie two hymns. “Will There be Any Stars in Aly Crown?” and “God Bless Otlr Native Land." Afternoon tea was served by Aiesdamcs Andrew and .Morris and Aliss Tlionifison. Airs. Peryman spoke on the resolu. Hons passed at the Women's Christian Temporam-e Union Convention held recently in Invercargill.
