HOW GHURKA SANK

Attacked By 24 Planes (British Official Wireless.l RUGBY, April 17. A survivor of the sunken British destroyer Ghurka says that the ship was bombed five times from the air. “The bombs were whizzing around from about two dozen enemy machines. “Tile bomb which did the real damage was a direct hit that almost shook the ship out of the water. While we were scrambling to safety we were machine-gunned and bullets rained on the decks.” The survivor paid a high tribute to the Ghurka’s medical officer, who actually continued to carry out operations on the wounded while the ship was sinking.
