TIME RUNNING SHORT
Need For Increased Allied Help ITALY AND RUSSIA WATCHING (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) LONDON, April 17. “The Tinies” says: — “All the news reaching official quarters in London shows that time is running short in Norway. Norwegians here declare that everything depends on the dispatch of speedy and effective Allied help, not merely in the narrow strip of north Norway, but in the southwest, where the Germans are fortifying positions. “Neutrals are sharply watching all moves for better or for worse.” The news from Italy and Russia, “The Times” stated, showed that both countries would probably shape their policies when they saw how events in Norway were turning. Although the Germans are claiming' more successes in Norway than can be substantiated, the Norwegians admit withdrawals, principally in southern Norway, where, nevertheless, the defenders are holding up the invaders’ attempts to consolidate their front in vital districts.
A high-placed official stated that the Allied operations in Norway are likely to be conducted on a* large scale and pushed home as speedily as possible “till the Germans are evicted.”
