HITLER’S DEMANDS TO MUSSOLINI
Report Of Talk At Brenner NEW, YORK, April 17. In a copyright article in the Chicago “Daily News,” Mr. Leland Stowe, writing from Stoakholm, says that Herr Hitler at the Brenner conference asked Signor Mussolini to order a wholesale Italian mobilization in an effort to blackmail France into a separate peace. Herr Hitler’s demands were so excessive and provocative that Signor Mussolini’s reception of them was very cold. Other requests were that Italy should provide Germany with 50 submarines’, that Italy should send an army of 500,000 men to Libra to threaten Egypt and Tunisia, and that she should send troops across Spain to the French Pyrenees frontier to frighten France, even without General Franco's permission. It is reliably stated' that Signor Mussolini believed .tihat the plan would drag Italy into a war for which it wasi not prepared.
