LEAVES FOR HOTBEDS
Substitute For Manure Leaves are invaluable for hotbeds; stable manure is largely used for this purpose, but it is becoming increasingly hard to obtain. If the manure is mixed with, a quarter of its own bulk of leaves and the heap is turned three or four times before building the bed, it, will be found to maintain a steady heat over a long period. If it is impossible to secure any manure it will still be possible to construct hotbeds, for a good substitute is obtained by mixing fresh leaves with an equal bulk of grass mowings. Mix well, give a thorough soaking with water or liquid manure and throw them' into a heap. After this has served as a hotbed the Jnaterial will prove useful for digging into the vegetable garden or herbaceous border, iu place of stable manure.
