Horses For Waverley
Dominion Special Service,
HAWEiRA, April 18. (Most, of the local candidates for Waverley were allotted fast work on the outside of the course proper at llawera this morning, when the going was a trifle heavy after overnight rain. Raidora (Graham) and War Dap (Toki) were not bustled to complete five furlongs in 1.7-J. War Lap will probably contest the main handicap. Vivacious (Graham) revelled in the going to shade Judgment (Turu) over a similar distance in I.S. The former accomplished his task in pleasing fashion, and looks a good winter prospect. Judgment is not partial to soft ground. Student Prince (Sexton) encompassed a mile at a working gallop, running the last four furlongs in 531. lie is in great order just now. First Chapter (Holland) pleased when getting to tlie end of five furlongs in 1.6. lie continues to impress, and will be a force to be reckoned with in his future hurdle engagements. The Hunting Song gelding look« better now than at any previous stage of his career. Kilometre (Holland) and Chief Lord (■McDonald) were accompanied by Lickem (Vaughan) over the first three five furlongs in, 39. Then Kilometre went on to defeat his companion by a couple of lengths, to record 1.7. Kilometre continues to impress, and he will have to be respected at Waverley and Egmont. Chief Lord was not hurried, and appears in first-rate order. Fiancee (Ryan) covered half a mile in 52 3-5. She has freshened up nicely since Easter. Winsome Lu (Reilly) and Gitana Lass (Holland) were associated over an easy six furlongs in 1.231, the last three in -11. Winsome Lu has proved a disappointment of late, but improvement is expected from this quarter now that the tracks have become easier. Calliope (Graham) and _ Teasoffi (Reilly), a novice filly by Kiosk in L. E. George’s stable, traversed three furlongs along the back in 391. Calliope infused plenty of dash into her task, and looks like proving useful over sprint courses. Bidens (Ryan), Resingold (McDonald), and Chiltern (Vaughan), finished in that, order at the close of five furlongs in I.S. The Auckland veterinary surgeon, Dr. W. C. Ring, was a visitor to Hawera yesterday, when he operated on the two-year-olds Barry Boy ami Vai Bay for respiratory trouble at New Plymouth. Earlier in the day Liberal’s Mint was also operated on for a similar affliction. Tavoy (.’Mills) strode out boldly when apportioned two rounds of pace work on the sand. She promises to be heard of again in the near future.
