Mr. Welles Answers Nazis
(Received April 5, 10.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, April 4
Referring to his recent visit to Paris, the Assistant Secretary of State, Mr. Sumner Welles, issued a statement in which he said: “A German allegation concerning a map shown in a photograph of M. Reynaud and myself is fantastic nonsense. At no time during my interviews in any capital was reference made Io maps. I did not even look at any ma]) which may have been in M. Reynaud's office."
