HORTICULTURAL EDUCATION
A meeting of the examining board of the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture, was 'held in Wellington recently. Those present were: Professor H. B. Kirk (chairman), Messrs. F. S. Rope, W. C, Hyde, E. Hutt, T. S. Waugh, G. V. Wild, and G. S. Nicol! (secretary). - It was agreed that the Education Department's subjects for the junior examination in horticulture should now be chemistry and general experimental science.
The resignation of Mr. T. D. Lennie, convener of Christchurch examinations for twelve years, was accepted with an expression of regret, and the keenest appreciation of his services.
The Canterbury District Council was congratulated on its excellent programme for 1940 of lectures at the Christchurch Technical College, on horticulture., covering the course for the institute’s diploma examination, and which is also open to nursery apprentices, journeymen, gardeners, and' interested amateurs. It was decided to recommend similar action to other district councils.
