Red Cross Meeting In Masterton
Tlie meeting of the Masterton branch of the Red Cross Society held this week was very well attended by representatives of all sections of the community. Mrs. G. G. Tolhurst, after explaining the constitution of the association, stressed the need for working harmoniously so that, there should lie no overlapping In duties. There was, she said, an imperative need for reserves of hospital supplies, sewing materials, etc., for, should some sudden emergency arise, there was no available reserve. Tlie formation of knitting circles to knit for tlie sick and wounded was also proposed. Various convenors of circles were appointed as follows:—-Nursing supplies, Mesdames A. F. Stewart, H. H. Daniell, D. .McKenzie; sewing circle, Mesdames Heath, J. G. S. Thompson. G. Hayne; knitting group. Mesdames Cameron, Cook and Flannery. The matron of the Masterton Hospital, Miss M. Barnett, was appointed delegate to the Patriotic Committee.
Services to tlie circles were offered by the following :—Nursing supplies, Mesdames Hugo, Borthwick, Alexander, Page, Deans, and Misses Barrer, Cruickshanks and Cooper; sewing circle, Mesdames Skeet. McCracken and Moser, and Miss Cruickshanks; knitting, Mesdames Iveson, Fagan, Mawley, Pavitt and L. Moore.
A general committee was appointed as follows: —Mesdames E. Lyttle t> ll( l L. Copp (representing the Townswomen’s Guild); M. Barrer (League of Nations Inion) : Miss M. Diggins and Mrs. Slilhorn (St. Vincent de Paul Society) : Misses O. R. Sutherland and Wiggins (Women Teachers’ Association) : Mrs. D. McKenzie and Miss Whitehouse (St. John Ambulance Division) ; Miss M. F. Barnett and Mrs. A. F. Stewart (Trained Nurses’ Association) ; Mesdames P. F. Fagan, Alexander, T. R. Barrer, 11. P. Hugo, Heath, 11. 11. Daniell. Miss Helen Gill and Dr. N. 11. Prior. Many organizations have vet to appoint, delegates. Miss Sutherland and Messrs. Norman Lee, C. Kyngdon. .1. G. S. Thompson and John Lawson, were appointed a financial commit tee to control the forthcoming joint Red Cross and St. -Tohn appeal.
