F'E'ILDING. April 5. Business was comparatively quiet til Feilding .sale today, a short, yarding oi sheep and a motlerate one of cattle selling slowly. For good quality stock, however, values I'etnametl lirni. Fat sheep: An unexpectedly s-hort entry of mutton was forward in this section. The condition and finish in some castw indicated that the best lines of ewes had already gone, and lambs, also, were generally _ unfinished. The best lambs made 20/2 to 21/6, second grade .18/3 to 18/9, ot'hers 16/8 to .17/10; extra prime ewes. 22/8 to 23/-, prime 20/7, light 13/- to 16/-, unfinished 11/6 to 14/7 i prime wethers, 23/7 to 25/-, lighter prime 22/- to 23/3, others 21/-. Store s'hee.p: Some good lines of young ewes here attracted the attention of buyers, but. generally. Ihe tone of the ! market was much quieter than at recent sates. Lambs were in short supply. The best tiwo-tooth ewes made 21/6, seeoudquaiity 26/- to 28/2, poor 20/-; good four-tooth ewes. 30/6, fair 21/9 to 22/-; extra good six-tooth ewes, 30/-; good i'our-year owes, 21/3; best four to liveyear ewes, 18/- to 19/7, fair 16/- to 17/9, others 13/6 to 15/10; forward wethers, 18/3; good ewe lam'bs, 25/2; wether laurlxs, 10/1 to 12/6; b.f. wether lambs, 15/9; fattening ewes from 7/7. Store cattle: Quite a good range of station cattle was yarded, but values, generally, were low. Mostly only the young stock were sold, some of the pens representing good value at the price paid. The best two and a half-year steers made £6/5/-, smaller £4/7/6 to £-1/18/-; good three and a half-year steers, £B/11/-; well-grown 18-month Hereford steers, £4 10/-, small £4, wcaners to £2/2/6; good A.A. heifers £5/1/-, others £3/10/ : ; weaner Jersey heifers. best £3/10/-, others £2/10/- to £2/19/-; weaner A.A. heifers, 20/-; yearling Shorthorn steers, £2/3/-; empty heifers, heavy £4/5/- to £5, others £3/10/- to £4; works cows. £3 to £4/2/6; forward run cows. £3 17/-.
Dairy cattle:. An improved quality penning of dairy stoek was yarded, prices showing a substantial increase for the best sorts. Good springing cows made £9 to £9/15/-, others £5 to £8; extra good cows in milk, £l2/15/-; springing heifers, £6/12/6. Fat cattle: The good, quality lines sold well, but the sale was slow for unfinished lines. The prices showed a slight advance on those of last week. Prime heifers made £B/12/6 to £9/10/-, light prime £6/10/- to £7/17/-, uiifitiished, £5 5/- to £6; prime cows, £B/10/- to £9 2/6. medium £7/10/- to £B/2/6. lighter £6 to £7; ex-dairy cows, £4/5/- to £6 15/-; medium prime steers, £lO/17/-. light £B/19/-, inilitiished £5/11/- to £5 I'7/6; runners, heavy £3/2/6 to £3/12/6, others £2 to £2/7/6; vealers £l/2/6 to £l/7/6. Pigs: The usual brisk sale took place for pigs. Good weaners made 9/- to 12/-; slijis, 14/- to 15/6; slores, 21/- to 26/-; porkers, £l/8/- to £2/3/6.
Poultry prices are: Hens, 1/10 to 2/10: pullets, 3/3 to 3/6; cockerels, 1/3 to 2/8; ducks, 1/6 to 2/8; geese, 3/- to 3/6; goblors, 5/9.
