ROYAL AMNESTY

Rumanian Iron Guard ALLEGIANCE DEMAND LONDON, March 17. The official Rumanian news agency has issued a statement concerning a proclamation by King Carol conferring freedom on members of the Iron Guard who have been in concentration camps since the wave of terrorism in 1938. This freedom is conditional on the Iron Guard members pledging their allegiance to King Carol. It is further stated that this act of unconditional submission by the former members of the Iron Guard cannot influence the unshakable guiding lines of Rumanian foreign policy, and that it affords proof that the Rumanian policy of conciliation has succeeded. It is not political compromise, but a sign of internal appeasement. All former members of the Iron Guard will be incorporated in the political life insofar as they prove their sincerity.
