SIR HARRY LAUDER’S WAR WORK

<. Famous Comedian INSPIRATION TO THE TROOPS Sir Harry Lauder, celebrated Scottish comedian, in spite of his age lias undertaken war work, entertaining servicemen and helping to maintain I heir morale. According to information received by Mr. It. 11. Nimmo, Wellington, he is travelling up and down the Old Country giving songs and talks. He did a great deal of similar work in the last war. Hiiring his stay in Great Britain, Mr. Nimmo was the guest of Sir Harry Lauder. At that time Sir Harry broke his thigh, and it was doubtful if he would ever fully regain the use of his leg. Krom information just received by Mr. Nimmo, it appeared that Sir liarry had made a most remarkable recovery, notwithstanding that he was GS years of age. He appeared to be just as dynamic and forceful a personality as be was 20 years ago. As a virtual ambassador from the British Empire, said Mr. Nimmo, Sir Harry did

great work in America in the last war in. helping to mould public opinion and sentiment toward the Allies. Mr. Nimmo said he had just heard from Sir Hury’s niece, Miss Greta Lauder, that with characteristic patriotic enthusiasm, the great comedian had entered into war work, and with his inimitable wit and cheery personality would again play a great part in helping to inspire and uplift the morale of the troops. Tribute to Sir Harry’s energy in undertaking war work is paid by the Boss-shire, Scotland, newspaper “The North Star,” on the occasion of a visit recently by the famous comedian. “Sir Harry has gallantly undertaken to do ‘his bit,’ and in this way he is lining a huge programme of entertainments, visiting centres up and down the country,” says the paper. “Sir Harry is no longer a young man. He is, in fact, at the stage when men cifn take little active part in the bustle of life. And in his ease a strenuous life had come to its restful stage. Yet here lie is, and his work is a noble one. Not many things are more calculated to help our men in a good way to face up to the ordeal of war than his inspiring work.”
