COMFORTS FOR TROOPS
Grants By Fund Board A number of grants to be spent in various ways in tlie interests of tlie fighting forces were approved by tlie National Patriotic Fund Board yesterday. The meeting was hold in the Executive Council Chambers, and was presided over by Ids Excellency the Governor-General. Lord Galway. The first grant was £250 for the provision of comforts for troops at isolated defence stations in New Zealand. Another grant was made for comforts for men stationed at an isolated defence post overseas. A grant was made for furnishings at the Fort Dorset recreation hut aud at the Baring Head lint. If drums for the infantry companies of tlie Second Echelon are unprocurable in New Zealand, it was decided, sutlieient money will be made available tor the purchase overseas of the drums required. It was decided to hold a conference of the board and the provincial patriotic councils early in May to discuss Hie unification of methods of dealing witli collections and expenditure ' and also the rehabilitation of the troops on their return to New Zealand. As Hip result of another decision, tlie billiard-room nt the Central District Mobilization Camp at Trantham is to be enlarged, so that it will lake six more tallies, making 1.0 in all. The board is also to provide the extra tables. The board agreed to parcels for prisoners of war being handled through the British Red Cross Society, the board tn reimburse the British Red Cross Society for all parcels sent to New Zealand prisoners of war.
