New South Wales V. The Rest (Received March 8, 11.35 p.m.) SYDNEY. March 8. A four-day cricket match in aid of patriotic funds between New South Wales, winners of tlie Slieffeld Shield, and Tlie Rest of Australia, began at Hie Sydney Cricket Ground today iu line and warm weather and on a fastislt dry wicket. Tlie Rest, captained by Bradman, won Hie toss and batted first, compiling 289 (Brown 35, Bradman 25, Hassett 136, Grimmett 27). Cheetham look three for 41, O'Reilly three for 78, and Pepper throe for 102. Hassett hit two sixes and 14 fours', and obtained 2-1 off one of O’Reilly’s >overs. New Smitli Wales have 'lost five wickets fqr 137 (McCabe 67 not out).
