Twenty tons of fencing wire which it is unable to obtain is urgently required by the Hawke’s Bay Rivers Board to complete its improvement scheme on the Ngaruroro River. The engineer. Mr. G. Rochfort, informed the board at its meeting today that in the past the board had been able to obtain supplies of wire from merchants. Jn an emergency ng much as five tons in a month had been necessary. The Department of Industries and Commerce' advised that the position regarding supplies of wire was acute and recommended the hoard to make inquiries from a firm in Petone. The hoard advised the department that approxiinutelv £200,000 had been expended on the scheme and any delay in supplies of wire might result iu damage to works which the board desired should be protected. The hoard left, the mailer to the engineer to take any steps necessary to obtain the supplies of wire required.
