HIGH COMMISSIONER TO CANADA
Australian Appointment (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 4. The first Australian High Commissioner to be appointed to Canada, Sir William Glasgow, fe a through passenger by the Mariposa to Ottawa. Sir William served with distinction in the Australian Forces during the Great War, being awarded various honours. From 1920 to 1932 he was a member of the Senate, and held a Ministerial office. Sir William Glasgow said that, following the appointment of a High Commissioner in London, which had proved a life-line between the two countries, Australia was now throwing out the laterals and binding still closer the component countries of the Empire. A keen interest is being taken by Sir William in the air training scheme in Canada. “Before very long,” he said, “the Empire should have available pilots, observers, and ground staff that may prove to be a most important factor in winning the war.”
